Qualifications:
10 years experience in a petrochemical industry work environment (or similar).
10 years experience in construction on a site.
10 years experience in industrial installation commissioning systems and procedures.
Level 4 qualification in industrial mechanical engineering.
Ability to interpret construction plans.
Ability to diagnose errors, review and test components on a range of equipment.
Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.
Ability to maintain equipment and hydraulic components.
Knowledge of the different materials, tools and equipment needed for construction.
Knowledge of general safety procedures.
Work methodically with attention to detail. Ability to plan work for most efficient use of resources (labour and equipment).
Coordinate work with other team members.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Other skills or specific qualifications required by the employer to be specified by the construction or service contract holder after the said contract is awarded
Task Description:
Manage a team of mechanical assemblers, welders, and perform the mechanical engineering tasks.
Carry-out the installation, commissioning, operational control and maintenance of industrial installations (under construction), equipment, and installation and testing of mechanical equipment.
Manage planning, organization and control of operations in the mechanical work department.
Ensure that all sub-contracted work respects productivity, standards of quality and deadlines specified in the contract.
Execute all other tasks relating to the skills required by the position.
Analyse the different execution plans to determine the necessary methods to realize the project (labour, equipment, materials).
Supervise several teams of mechanical fitters/welders.
Select, use and assume responsibility for the relevant equipment measurement, testing and calibration.
Select, use and assume responsibility for all hand-tools and portable power tools.
Dismantle, inspect and test components of mechanical equipment.
Check the status of machinery, facility and equipment.
General repair and maintenance of machinery, facility and equipment.
Install and check alignment of pump couplings, machinery and equipment and take care of realignment.
Follow pressure test procedures for pressurized systems.
Establish lists of defective work or non-conformance before commissioning.
Align and adjust all correctly manufactured components according to specifications.
Identify the added materials and appropriate processes to perform on-site welding of similar materials.
Weld materials in different positions, e.g. on a flat, horizontal or vertical surface or at heights, in order to realize the necessary welding in accordance with recognized international specifications.
Make assembly templates and frameworks to maintain the pieces to be welded using techniques such as preheating, heat dissipation, and stress relaxation in order to maintain the specified dimensions to avoid shrinking or undercutting.
Monitor the treatment, positioning and fuelling of welding filling materials, to excessive heat of base metals, carry-out the fusion of the root pass and secondary passes to obtain penetration and desired welding head dimensions.
Awareness of safety and of any existing or potential danger associated with the obligations of the job and the industrial site environment.
Define the construction methods and procedures best suited to the conditions for access and work areas.
Establish, assign and coordinate the work of different teams.
Monitor work progress schedules and make the necessary modifications in order to achieve deadlines and committed budget.
Assist the teams to execute difficult tasks.
Carry out control of the works and prepare required documents.
Define remediation measures for variances in productivity.
